Frequently Asked Questions
- Who can request flexible working?
- From April 2024, all employees can request flexible working from day one of employment. Previously, 26 weeks' service was required. Employees can make two requests per year.
- How long do I have to respond to a flexible working request?
- You must complete the entire process (including any appeal) within 2 months of receiving the request, unless you agree a longer period with the employee.
- On what grounds can I refuse a flexible working request?
- You can only refuse for one of eight statutory reasons: burden of additional costs, inability to reorganise work, inability to recruit additional staff, detrimental impact on quality/performance, insufficiency of work during proposed periods, planned structural changes, or other grounds specified in regulations.
